Sylvania SilverStar zXe H7 Halogen Headlight Bulbs

Overall Best

Sylvania’s zXe is one of the best H7 compatible offerings out there, delivering intense light output, a longer lifespan, and notably, one of the coolest color temperatures we’ve ever seen in the halogen category.

The first thing we noticed about the SilverStars is their brightness. Our tests showed over 10% brighter than stock, and the difference is noticeable.

Thanks to the wider projection, more of the roadside is brought into view, and longer throw means you see farther down your path as well, making them perfect for use on highways and country roads.

But perhaps even more surprising than the brightness boost is the upgraded whiteness. Coming in at 3870k, the color temperature of these bulbs is 29% cooler than that of stock halogens. Style and aesthetics aside, the whiter beam helps with nighttime visibility.

Cars, bumps, potholes and road signs were more easily visible with the zXe bulbs installed, making nighttime driving safer and more comfortable.

Sylvania delivers a uniform beam pattern free of dark spots. We did not experience any flickering or flashing, and installation was quick and easy.

Durability and lifespan also see improvement. Our testing put the bulbs under heavy load, and we can report that they did not even flinch. With that, we are confident that these bulbs will last significantly longer than stock.

Pros
  • 10% brighter
  • 29% whiter
  • Long lasting
  • Improves downroad visibility
  • Wider field of view
  • More road coverage
  • Awesome xenon style
  • Perfectly illuminates longer stretches of road
  • Improves peripheral visibility

Osram Night Breaker Laser H7 Halogen Bulbs

Best Budget

Osram’s aptly named Night Breaker Laser H7 bulbs are a budget bulb that offers the same features as their premium counterparts. Namely, these bulbs are considerably brighter than stock, with a cooler color temperature to boot.

We found the Night Breakers to be a nice 13% brighter than the OEM option starting with the brightness. These bulbs feature an intensely bright beam that lights up the road further and wider. This allows you to keep the roadside in your peripheral vision and drive safer.

Another stand out feature of this bulb is the color temperature. At 3400k, it is a respectable 10% whiter, helping improve visibility by making your sightline clearer. The cooler color reflects off of surfaces more easily, so that the driver can react quicker and more efficiently to wild animals, other vehicles, and pedestrians.

These German made bulbs are also rated to last longer than stock halogens. They combine better, more durable materials and more efficient power consumption to provide a longer lasting design. We put the bulbs through the wringer and did not face any flickering, overheating, or low output issues.

Finally, we highly recommend the Osram Night Breaker Laser halogen bulbs for the driver who logs a lot of highway miles. The farther throw and wider coverage are ideal for use on highways and country roads.

Pros
  • 13% brighter than stock

  • Wider road coverage than stock
  • Brighter light output
  • More reflective off of surfaces

Sylvania SilverStar H7 Halogen Bulbs

Best Premium Choice

Sylvania’s H7 compatible SilverStar is more intense than stock, features a cooler white color and better road coverage. It improves nighttime visibility while also looking more aesthetically pleasing.

We tested the SilverStars in a number of settings, from well lit cities to darker highways. We can report that these bulbs performed well in all cases, illuminating our path and its surroundings better. We can attest to a 10% increase in intensity, which really does help visibility for nighttime driving.

As for the whiteness, these halogens have a temperature of 3460k.Far from pure white, it is a dramatic improvement over the yellow tinged stock bulbs we had. In fact, at over 18% whiter than the stock option, these bulbs are one of the whitest aftermarket halogens you can find.

Sylvania’s SilverStar halogen bulbs have a proprietary cap on the bulb that is coated in silver. When the headlights are on, the reflective surface catches the light, increasing light output. Moreover, this same silver treatment makes the bulb appear invisible, giving you a cooler design and unbroken light beam.

These bulbs are also more durable than the stock alternative. Drivers say that the SilverStars offer the same awesome performance even after months of regular driving. Our own testing yielded similar results. Nonetheless, we’ll be sure to update this article if we run into any issues long term.
