JDM ASTAR PX LED Tail Light Bulbs

Overall Best

JDM Astar’s LED tail light bulbs combine efficient energy consumption with highly visible light output. Add to that the fact that these bulbs are compatible with a wide variety of vehicles, and you’ve got pretty much the perfect LED tail light bulbs.

These bulbs sport a high brightness output of around 2500 lumens. That’s on the higher side for a set of tail light LEDs, and allows other drivers to spot you from further away. This is especially true for low visibility conditions such as fog and rain.

That brightness is thanks to the 21 PX LED chips in these bulbs which enhance coverage and increase the surface area for light output.

As for the color profile, these LED tail light bulbs emit red light. This is ideal as red light is more easily noticeable, especially from further away. Even in lower visibility conditions such as dust or fog, we were able to make out these tail lights pretty easily.

Here, we were a bit worried that the difference in intensity between the running tail light and the brake light wouldn’t be enough, but the bulbs proved us wrong. The brake light is over three times as bright as the running tail light, making it a lot safer than stock bulbs.

Another really cool feature of these bulbs is how quickly they light up after you press the brake pedal. In fact, we found that the light up time is instantaneous, so drivers behind you are notified the second you start slowing down and don’t end up crashing into you.

Compatibility shouldn’t really be much of an issue, as we tested these LED tail light bulbs with various configurations of tail light assemblies across a couple dozen different manufacturers and they fit all of them perfectly.

If you want, you can also get these LED tail light bulbs in amber, white, or even blue. Combined with the wide range of compatibility, this means you can use the bulbs as more than just tail lights. In fact, we found that they work really well as daytime running lights, marker LEDs, turn signals, and the like.

We found the plug-and-play installation to be quite convenient, and the lack of any wires made it that much simpler to get these LED tail light bulbs up and running.

Longevity is helped along by the efficient power consumption, which beats stock bulbs by quite a wide margin. The aviation grade aluminum housing protects the internal components from damage, as does the IP67 water and dust resistant rating.

All said and done, you can expect just over 20,000 hours of usage out of these LED tail light bulbs.

Pros
  • 2500 lumen light output
  • Available in red, amber, white, and blue
  • Can be used as tail lights, turn signals, DRLs, etc
  • Aluminum housing
  • Two stages of operation
  • Brake light is over 3 times brighter than the running light
  • 20,000 hour lifespan
  • IP 67 water and dust resistance
  • Plug and play installation doesn’t require any wiring
  • Compatible with a wide variety of vehicles
  • Best for low visibility conditions such as rain, fog, or dust
Cons
  • Error codes on some vehicles

LUYED Non-Polarity Super Bright 3014 Led Bulbs

Best Budget

Luyed’s LED tail light bulbs provide a ton of performance and benefits for the price. These bulbs are significantly brighter than stock, have one of the longest-lasting designs we’ve ever seen, and the price is lower than even some OEM replacements!

Brightness comes in at a respectable 900 lumens. That’s almost a third as bright as our top pick, but still a massive upgrade over stock bulbs. The bulbs are plenty visible for nighttime driving, though other drivers might have a hard time making out your vehicle in heavy snow.

Credit where credit is due though, the beam angle is quite a bit wider than most LED tail light bulbs, which means you get a very uniform beam pattern, free of any dark spots.

Power consumption is commendable. It is lower than the stock bulbs in most cars, and even beats out a lot of what the aftermarket has to offer.

This low power consumption also enables a higher lifespan. In fact, that’s one area where the Luyed beats our top pick. It is rated to last as much as 50,000 hours, so you don’t have to replace the bulbs anytime soon.

As for the color profile, it is a pure white 6500K. That means you can use the bulbs as LED tail lights, DRLs, marker LEDs, and a whole range of other stuff.

The 6500K color means these bulbs are only available in the one color, but the beam itself is really easily visible through red tail lights, so we’re not going to complain too much.

An intelligent IC driver regulates power and ensures there are no sudden spikes that could damage the internal components. That’s probably how Luyed were able to give these LED tail light bulbs their impressive lifespan.

The non-polarity design makes installation that much easier and quicker. You don’t have to worry about installing the LEDs the wrong way. Speaking of installation, we are happy to report that these LEDs are compatible with a wide variety of vehicles, so you shouldn’t have any trouble fitting them to yours.

Lastly, the bulbs are fully waterproof, and come with an industry-leading 2 year warranty.

And at half the price of our top pick, these LED tail lights pretty much offer the best deal out there.

Pros
  • 900 lumen brightness output
  • 6500K ultra pure white color profile
  • 50,000 hour lifespan
  • Wider angle of projection than most LED tail lights
  • Intelligent IC driver for lower power consumption
  • 2 year manufacturer warranty
  • Non-polarity design
  • Easy to install
  • Half the price of our top pick
  • Compatible with a wide variety of vehicles
  • Fully waterproof housing
Cons
  • Not as bright as our top pick

Philips 1156 Intense White Vision LED Tail Light

Best Premium

The Philips Intense White LED tail light bulbs offer all of the performance you could ever want, a surprisingly efficient design, and the reliability and quality that comes with any Philips product.

When it comes to overall light output, Philips’ LED tail light bulbs are in line with, if not slightly better than, our top pick. The beam extends further than stock bulbs and has a wider angle of projection, which makes it that much easier to see from afar.

We didn’t have to put up with any flickering or dimness either, even when we ran the bulbs continuously for a couple hours at a time.

The 6000K color profile isn’t quite as ultra pure white as our top pick, but it’s plenty for most applications. It’s an aesthetically pleasing design that also offers practical benefits in the form of better visibility and a safer driving experience.

If you use these LED tail lights as a reversing light, we found that they also make it easier to see behind you in the backup camera. Speaking of, these LED bulbs can be used for more than just reversing lights or tail lights. The wider compatibility means you can use them as interior lights as well.

Longevity is through the roof, as you’d expect from a Philips product. In fact, the manufacturer claims that these LED tail light bulbs can last up to 12 years, even with regular heavy usage.

So it’s entirely possible that you’ll change your vehicle before you have to change the LEDs!

Part of why these bulbs are so long-lasting is the fact that they are specifically made to resist damage from excess heat or vibrations. This type of design is ideal for cars and trucks that get used off-road or in extreme weather conditions.

Overall, this may be one of the pricier LED tail light bulbs we’ve tested, but the fact that they last so long and perform so well means the price is well worth it.

Pros
  • Bright and powerful lighting
  • 6000K color profile
  • Can last up to 12 years
  • Can be used in various configurations
  • Do not flicker or flash unnecessarily
  • Ideal for cars and trucks that get used in extreme conditions, such as off-road, snow, extreme heat, etc.
